Merging

Boy takes form on May 9, 1988

From womb, the ocean of existence

To body, the separation

Yearning to become one again

The first time they meet in the August heat

Boy says “I love you” to girl in his sleep

The unconscious becoming conscious

Strange and sublime

Mirroring the vast complexity of life

Two months later they depart to Martinique

Treading together in salty seas

Meandering through clustered jungles of mossy green

Contracting dengue (maybe)

Love was not a falling into

‘Twas a jumping in head first

When the intuition guides

Then logic has no need

Goodbye to the rational mind

Heart travels godspeed

Boy awakens to girl day after day

Sunlight spilled on white linen sheets

From a studio in Manhattan to a one bedroom in Queens

Embarking to fourteen foreign countries

Einstein said in 1905, "time equals space"

Time tangled in togetherness

Space spent in union

Motion in partnership

The two merged to one

Non-dualism no longer a spiritual term

But a feeling

A becoming

A remembering

Boy and girl danced this dance

Lifetimes before

Fell asleep on forest floors

Clung to one another under ancient skies

A love like theirs could never die
